The 5th Element Zirrafe Skis, much like legendary animals of Yore, is a blend better than the sum of its parts. Designed to be a swiss army knife of sorts, the Zirrafe is here to help athletic beginners to intermediate skiers continue to improve while allowing them to ski everything the mountain has to offer. Built around an 85mm waist and a full wood core, the Zirrafe starts with a solid foundation for great edge hold and a smooth skiing experience. The Zirrafe gets a touch of rocker in both the tip and tail, and a mellow rise gives the Zirrafe almost automatic turn initiation without sacrificing the edge feel and control as speed increases. The rocker also increases the performance of the Zirrafe off-piste, allowing it to float on crud and powder for effortless arcs no matter the snow pack. As a final touch, the Zirrafe gets a dose of twin tip, making it park friendly for the more daring young skiers. The end result is that the Zirrafe excels as a confidence building, anything at anytime, ski for the beginning adult skier.

Comments about 5th Element Zirrafe Skis:

After snowboarding for the past few seasons I made the transition to skiing. These skis are great for someone who is a casual skier or is new to the sport. For a set of skis under $150 these are dependable and a great place to start. Obviously they will not be as responsive as top end skis or cut as well through deep powder pockets as bigger skis but they are solid. When I had my bindings put on at a local ski shop they seemed to like the skis and find them very fascinating. These skis do handle well on ice and definitely help with skiing the northeast.

Comments about 5th Element Zirrafe Skis:

These skis work perfectly for me since I am adv.-int. I can go off ramps without falling to my immediate doom, and go through powder that is up to my thighs without twisting my ankles in the complete opposite direction!

    • Q:

The manufacturer's website describes these as a "junior" skis. Are they equally appropriate for an adult skier? Is there anything, aside from length, that differentiates the two?
Asked on 3/11/2014 by Tom from Virginia

      • Staff Reviewer

        A:

The 5th Element Zirrafe skis can be used by smaller adults, but are originally designed for junior skiers. Junior skis will be shorter and softer than adult skis, and will be set up to distribute weight differently than adult skis due to the physical build of younger skiers.

    • Q:

Rocker or camber? Are these good for starting park? Do they flex easy?

        A:

The 5th Element Ziraffe skis will be cambered with tip rocker. They will be a softer flexing ski and will work well both in park and for carving.
