This bag is great for airline travel. I put my boots in it and used it as a personal item on the way out to the ski resort. With just the boots in the bottom and things like ski socks tucked in the boots and the top pushed down I could take it on the plane with me. On the way back I opened up the top and stuffed the top with things I purchased on my trip (hoodies and other souvoniers) and checked it. Everything held up great. If you want to use it as a carry-on just watch how many things you put on top.
