The New Salomon BBR 8.9 is a totally new ski shape designed from the same team that brought game changers like the Pocket Rocket and X-Scream. Inspired by surfboard shapers that feel that powder acts like a 3 dimensional medium, similar to water, the BBR 8.9 has an ultra wide V shaped shovel that can not sink, no matter how deep the snow. Salomon is looking to give you the maximum sensation under your feet. The 147mm tip gives you more feel, and the narrower (89mm) under your the better the grip. An Oversized Pulse Pad Dampening System has an elastomer layer along the whole edge and shovel of the ski, provides maximum shock absorption and smoother ski to snow contact. The BBR 8.9 has a very surfy feel, no matter what the conditions are, deep powder, crud, or groomers. Total Edge Reinforcement increased durability against rocks or coral that might be under the frozen water. Vertical Sidewalls add some carving ability to this unique shape. The BBR 8.9 is a perfect ski for someone who is looking for a powder ski that is under 90mm underfoot. Don't be afraid to surf the mountain on this new ski shape.

Comments about Salomon BBR 8.9 Skis 2012:
ok, so I consider myself an Advanced skier and I wanted a ski that handeled Powder and the hard pack. Unfortunately I am not rich enough to own multiple sets of good quality skiis, so I wanted to try and find a ski that did it all. I saw the BBR 8.9 then started doing research, but all the reviews were being done by either Solomon or guys like the ones you see on this site....So here is a real persons review that has taken them out around 5 different times in all types of conditions.
First off, these are awesome in the powder. I have had them out multiple times this year where there has been 30 - 40 cm of fresh snow. When people ask, I compare it to driving a Cadilac. They are so smooth and easy to handle (P.S. I've never driven a Caddy...just how I would imagine it). With the slight rocker, you are never fighting to keep the tips up and with the wide shovels, it seems effortless. I give them an A+
In the Hard Pack, these things are great as well, they carve nice through anything I have taken them on. Whether the run was freshly groomed or at the end of a ski'd out day, I never had a problem. So, after viewing some of the video reviews on this site, I don't know what they are talking about. I give them a A+ on the groomers.
Now, where they are not the best are on the Moguls. Now I have never been an amazing Mogul skier, so this may just be a result of my skill. It also may be that I have the 186cm which is around 10cm longer than my last pair. Who knows, but anyway I give them a B- in this area.
So, do yourselves a favor, see if you can demo these or ask someone who has actually ski'd these that you know doesn't work for a ski company. I think they were worth the investment and can't wait to take them out again. Oh ya, if you do decide to buy them, be prepared to get asked about them through out the day. I can't ski a full day without 3 - 4 people asking me about them.
Good Luck!!!

Would like to have had suggestions for binding for the BBRs, not just the Solomon binding, like Markers etc. Skis were delivered as promised and the experience of shoping on this site was very good and your call in staff was excellent in answering my questions about the BBRs.

Hi I'm Terry. I just got off Salomon's new BBR 8.9 186 length. Kind of a different shape, wider in the shovel, narrow in the tail. Likes soft snow better than the hardpack. It is stable at high speeds, on the hardpack but I think it would prefer the powder and the trees rather than the front side groomers. Overall I give it a 3 out of 5.

Hi this is Trey. I just got off of Salomon's brand new concept ski; the BBR 8.9 Big wide shovel, sidecut at the top of the ski and into the underfoot. Really hooks up nice and it's kind of mellowed out in the tail so it doesn't throw you around. It's really easy to carve turns. Great ski for a progressing intermediate or even a casual advanced skier who really wants to be able to carve easy turns without getting that kick at the end. Stable at speed, I'm gonna give this ski 4 out of 5 stars.

Hi this is Thom, I'm here with the Salomon BBR 8.9 Pretty unique construction on this thing. It's a short turn radius with pretty gradual tip-rocker. Interesting ski, I give it a 3 out of 5 stars. Not really my style of ski but with the sidewall it holds an edge real well. It's a mellow ski, very, very short turning but for that one person that's gonna need one ski that's gonna go everywhere and do everything, likes to ski a little bit more adventurously the wide shovel and the kind of surf-inspired tip is gonna provide a lot of float. A real comfortable ski when snow gets more variable.

Hi I'm Steve. I just got off the Salomon BBR 8.9 skis. I've also skied this ski a couple of times already so I've already tested it. I love this ski every time I've tested it, this is the third time. It's an amazing ski, this is the sidewall version which is the stiffer version. You can see it has an extremely wide tip but it has an amazing amount of side carve so it's great for hardpack and icy conditions. It can handle powder because of the tip. I give this ski 5 out of 5 stars because it's absolutely amazing. This is a 176 which is normally the length I would ski but I've actually skied the 186 on this ski and liked it because you can definitely go longer on this ski than you're used to. The sidecut kind of ends well below the tip so, actually it's like you're skiing with a shorter ski when you are on hardpack. But you get the longer ski when you're skiing on powder because that part of the ski then engages when you're doing it on soft conditions, powdery condition kind of situations. This is an amazing ski for that person who wants one ski that can do it all; hard pack, ice, soft pack, crud and powder. It can handle everything, this is a great ski, I really loved it.

Hey my name is Sean. I just skied the Salomon BBR 8.9 This is the sidecut version of these bad boys. They're an awesome ski. It's a ski that you can go anywhere on the mountain and have fun all day long. You can ski on powder groomed / ungroomed trails. You're gonna have fun all day long. It's gonna be perfect for the intermediate to advanced skier who wants to go everywhere on the mountain. I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars and just phenomenal ski. It may look a little strange like that... but it's gonna be the new hotness.

What's going on? This is Jeff here with the Salomon BBR 8.9 At first thought you might think this is a water ski. Believe it or not this is actually a snow ski that is phenomenally amazing. This thing is so much fun to ride as long as you're not trying to do short snappy turns. You're just out there and you wanna have fun. Preferably some loose-packed snow, even if you get a hold of some groomers. Just try to open up wide and go and this thing is an absolute BALL to ride. No issues at all with the stacked sidewall you have great edge control, great grip. What can I say, I give this a solid 4 out of 5 stars.

This is Hans with the Salomon BBR 8.9 It's a new ski from Salomon this year. As you can see, extremely wide tip. This ski is definitely for your good skier that wants to own multiple skis. Not for super aggressive, but somebody who wants to get better. Somebody who wants to look better, this ski will do it for you. It will probably be good in pretty much all snow conditions but on softer snow it's best. It might be a little bit on the softer side but It's a great ski. I give it a 4 out of 5.

Hey everyone It's Fidel. I just got off of Salomon's BBR 8.9 Brand new for this year, 186 length in the 8.9. If you notice it's a little bit different looking, it's got a "V-shape" to it. Semi-twin-tip, full side wall but I don't really know how to explain it. It's kind of in a class of it's own, it gives you a real kind of loose surfy feel. It did hold it's edge really well. I did not get a chance to ride it in deeper powder. Didn't mind the crud, felt a little unstable on the hard pack and the groomers so for me I'm still undecided, right now, it's a 3 out of 5.
